What is the Turkey Bowl?
The Turkey Bowl is our annual tradition where Colonial students and families donate Thanksgiving meals in laundry baskets, then we take them downtown and deliver them to families involved in Freedom Fire. We meet these families, deliver the baskets, and pray with them. Afterwards we head back to the church, eat a chili supper together and then go play some FOOTBALL!!!!
Where are we going: TWO options this year!!
Some of us will still be carpooling down to the inner city (I-70 & Paseo area) to meet our friends from Freedom Fire Urban Ministries (Bruce McGregor and Kevin Cacy), and deliver our baskets to families involved in their ministry. The rest of us will be partnering with Colonial’s Encouragers Ministry to deliver baskets to neighbors in need surrounding the Wornall campus. (PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH GROUP YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN WHEN YOU REGISTER)

Where to meet: The Wornall Campus Fellowship Hall. We’ll meet at 9 am sharp so don’t be late! PLEASE PARK IN THE PARKING LOT NEAREST THE CHURCH BUILDING (It is important we keep cars clear of the youth house parking lot because of the Harvester’s Food Drop)
Transportation: We will take some Colonial vehicles, but several parents will also need to drive.
| What to bring: See the Registration form for options: You can provide a full basket of Thanksgiving fixins' enough for a family of five. Ideas: boxed stuffing, mashed potatoes, canned green beans, corn, cranberry sauce, pumpkin, evaporated milk, yams, pie filling, bag of flour, bag of sugar, jell-o & a BIG frozen Tom Turkey too! OR, you can offer to provide part of a basket: the turkey and the basket, the side dish items, the dessert items. We will combine these contributions to make as many baskets as possible. If you can't make it on the 19th you can still donate and just drop it off ahead of time. We also need those coming to the chili luncheon afterwards to provide a contribution for lunch(crockpot of chili or soup, side dishes--options on registration). |
