Senior Adult Ministries
Senior Adult Ministries
The Senior Adult Ministry of Colonial seeks to help seniors use their skills, insights, and abilities in new ways as they move into the second half of life. We believe that God desires to use us fully and completely throughout our lives. Wisdom gained, insights gleaned, hands ready to work are all important in this area of ministry.
There are opportunities for spiritual growth, service, outreach, education, travel, and social activities, too! We desire for our seniors to feel valued and appreciated in this growing community and ministry of Colonial Presbyterian Church. To read A Biblical View of Aging, click here.
For more information about the Senior Adult Ministry, please contact Pastor Mary Brown at mbrown@colonialkc.org or 816-501-3002.
"For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for Him and how you have shown your love to Him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true, then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith endurance." Hebrews 6:10-12 (NLT)
The Ways We Care for You at Colonial!
Through care visits that include the reading of scripture and prayer, the pastors and ministry partners share the love of Christ and bring hope and encouragement to members and others from our community that are in the hospital, care facilities, or those unable to attend corporate worship.
Ministry partners are matched with senior members for friendship and support. Regular visits keep those no longer able to participate in church activities connected to their Colonial family. A pastor, along with a team of ministry partners, will serve Communion to those who desire it.
This is a 13-week support group for individuals, including non-Colonial people, who have lost a loved one through death. In a “grief-lite” culture that tells us to “move on,” we provide support and opportunities to share our grief experience.
1. Grievers need to find words for the loss.
2. Grievers need to say the words aloud.
3. Grievers need to know that the words have been heard.
4. Grievers need to work through the pain of the loss.

Connection with God and one another helps us to know and be known, to feel a sense of belonging in this huge place. This is Colonial’s mission, to be a discipling community, inwardly strong and outwardly focused, where God’s power is changing lives now and for eternity! Our groups vary from senior adult only to intergenerational groups. We hope you’ll come along – some of the best friends you’ve never met are waiting to meet you in a LIFE group! Job 12:12
Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old.
Titus 2:1-8
1 As for you, Titus, promote the kind of living that reflects wholesome teaching. 2 Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience.
3 Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. 4 These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, 5 to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.
6 In the same way, encourage the young men to live wisely. 7 And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching. 8 Teach the truth so that your teaching can’t be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us.
“O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to all the nations to come.” Psalm 71: 17-18 (NLT)
