Fall Joplin Mission Trip
"...and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" -Jesus (Acts 1:8)
Who is going?
We are all one big, happy family so this is a middle and high school combined trip from both campuses. We also believe relational discipleship and bonding happens best when working together on mission so we want as many of our life group and other adult leaders to go as possible. Who knows maybe a Summer Staffer or two will join us as well.
When are we going?
The dates of the trip are October 14-16. We will meet at the Wornall campus at 1 p.m. on Friday October 14 and return at 4 p.m. on Sunday October 16. The 14th is an open day for most of the public schools in the area. If you cannot make it by 1 p.m. we can certainly arrange a separate group to leave in the evening.
Where will be staying?
Because we expect to have a large group we will probably be split between two or three churches. These splits will most likely be by middle and high school and male and female so don't worry about being separated from your best friend that you do everything with. We will be sleeping on floors so please bring an air mattress or other form of bedding and a sleeping bag. We will have one location where we eat meals and meet as a group.
What will we be doing?
Above all we are participating in God’s redemptive work by serving the people of Joplin and helping restore the city through the local church. To be more specific we will be in work crews focusing on different tasks in the cleanup effort. Some service opportunities may include: sorting/packing/sizing clothes for distribution, cleaning up debris, and rebuilding/construction projects. Certain jobs will be age restricted and all groups will have several adults working alongside them. As the dates get closer we will have signups for jobs available.
What are the logistics?
The cost is $60 per student which covers dinner on Friday, all Saturday meals, and breakfast on Sunday. Families with two or more kids coming receive a $10 discount per student. As always we have scholarships available and ready, we would hate for anybody to miss out on this for financial reasons.
We will be taking 15 passenger buses from Master's Transportation driven by the youth staff and other adult leaders. Click
here to see the vehicles.
Everyone needs to have a signed and notarized medical release on file before we leave on Friday. To download a copy, click here.
Everyone should all have an up to date Tetanus booster, especially if they are planning on working with debris removal or construction.

Do I get a trendy mission trip t-shirt?

We aren't ordering t-shirts as a group, but we've found these pretty cool ones and the best thing of all is all profits go directly to rebuilding Joplin. These shirts come in 5 different colors, If you would like to check them out or order one for yourself please click
here. The shirts are only $13 and you will need a paypal account to order them. If you don't have a paypal account and don't want to set one up, just let one of the youth staff know and we can order one for you.
