"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." James 1:27
Thousands of children in Haiti now find themselves without families, food, or homes. They are roaming the streets, at risk for disease, starvation, and molestation. Following the command of James 1:27, Colonial Presbyterian's response to the crisis in Haiti will be focused on the efforts of The Global Orphan Project. www.theglobalorphanproject.org
Prior to the earthquakes, The GO Project cared for over 2000 orphans in Haiti. The number of additional orphans created by the earthquakes is staggering. To care for all the orphans is too big for anyone, but God. Our God is in control and he is working in Haiti through organizations such as The Global Orphan Project.
By the grace of God, all 2000 children in GO Project homes are safe, a miracle in itself since one of the homes was at the epicenter of the earthquake. The GO Project has developed an action plan to this crisis, part of which includes establishing a transition village outside of Port Au Prince. The goal for this village will be to provide for the care of the most at risk orphans in the area, while planning and construction begins on permanent GO Project villages throughout Haiti.
The need is great. There is a need for money, supplies, caretakers, and most of all, prayer.
The command is clear. "Care for orphans and widows in their distress."
