Adopt Family Resources

There are 3 main types of adoption:

Foster to Adopt  •  Domestic Adoption  •  International Adoption

Foster to Adopt Steps

Kansas

  • Contact KVC. In order to be sponsored by KVC as an “adoption only” family, KVC’s policy states the family must be willing to consider adopting children from the following categories: age 9 or older, sibling groups of 3 or more or children with severe special needs
  • They will complete an Adoptive Home Study with you
  • Complete Adoption Application Packet (includes background checks, verification of employment, health assessment, reference checks and budget)
  • Post placement supervision
  • Child placement
  • Court proceedings for finalization (KS provides stipend towards adoption court costs – some attorneys provide pro bono services)
  • Post adoption support that may include Medicaid, an ongoing stipend and college tuition for the adoptee

Missouri

  • Complete STARS training (27 hours of training) with MFCAA or MBCH
  • Complete Home Study
  • Complete Spaulding training (12 hours of training)
  • Complete an Adoption Home Assessment Application
  • Contact The Children’s Division re waiting children
  • Child Placement
  • Court proceedings for finalization MO provides stipend toward court costs
  • Post adoption support that may include Medicaid, an ongoing stipend and college tuition for the adoptee

Domestic Adoption Process

  • Complete Your Home Study with a local agency
  • Entering the Waiting Parent Program
  • The Selection and Waiting Period
  • Child Placement
  • Post Placement and Finalization

International Adoption Process

  • Select an international adoption agency
  • Fill out an application and agency paperwork
  • Complete home study report by social worker
  • Adoption Education Requirement
  • Document gathering for Dossier
  • Child Referral/Acceptance
  • Bring Child Home
  • Post Placement Supervision
